The Garrett Café is an integral part of the entrance space of the D. Maria II National Theater.
The refurbishment of the space, already with a pre-existing space for food and beverages, aimed to remodel the kitchen space, increasing it to allow a more efficient operation in terms of comfort, hygiene and safety and Consequent alteration of the cafeteria service area, adapting to the contiguity of the existing space.
The whole intervention had as motto the total integration of the new coffee in the architecture of the theater. For this, the use of colors and materials consonants with the existing ones (green of walls identical to the one existing in the remaining painted walls, lamio lioz, covering of pillars, walls and coffee shop counter). There is also a design of symmetry throughout the intervention, with service counter in the center of the space and equal intention in the design of support cabinets. On the other hand, the pavement chosen from this area will be in gray Trigaches marble tile, also existing stone in the pre-existing contiguous pavement.
The increase in the kitchen area has made the cafeteria service area progress towards the Foyer, compared to the existing one, with the service desk, of classic design, framed in the plan of pillars that starts to limit the service area.
The back bench and the walls between it and the wall cabinets will be lioz coated, the latter being the lower cabinets lacquered in a neutral gray color
The set of upper cabinets integrates an open central module for wine exhibition, respecting the need for symmetry of the whole.
The kitchen, as a technical area that is, was treated less noble than the area previously described, but, because it is visible from the Foyer (through a wide racks), there was care in the design of its design, Equipment and coating materials. For the walls was chosen a glazed ceramic coating of green identical to that found in the Foyer.
The service entrance for kitchen support is made by Largo do Regedor and involves a small change of three spans discreetly and not adulterating the overall reading of this exterior façade of the theater.
In general terms the remodeling allows the following areas:
- 50 m² of tables area;
- 12 m² of cafeteria service area;
- About 30 m² of kitchen area
